Welcome to Kittamaqundi Community!
We are an independent, Christian community of about 100 people, worshiping, laughing, praying, crying and singing together in the heart of Columbia, Maryland.
Our community is just a couple of years younger than Columbia itself. Founded in 1969, our community began when members of the Church of the Savior in Washington, D.C. came to start a new kind of church in the new city that was being dreamed up in the middle of some farmland between Baltimore and Washington.
We renovated a barn and started to worship in a way that invited a lot of community participation and creativity, and built a church rooted in small groups, committed to supporting each other as we follow Christ’s call to discipleship.
Some of the people who helped start KC are still part of the church today, and others have joined only in the past few years.
We come from a whole variety of religious backgrounds - Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Unitarian, Christian Scientist and just about everything else. What pulls us together is our common commitment to ground our lives in a series of Christian practices - prayer, scripture study, worship, giving and small group fellowship, which deepen and renew our faith daily.
We also are committed to the outward expression of our faith - responding with compassion to those in need, offering hospitality, and living in reconciled community with each other and with God’s world.
I hope that you’ll come and meet us in person! We worship at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday, and at a variety of other times as well. You’ll find information about our other programs for education and support, fun and service on this Website. If anything you read raises a question for you, please don’t hesitate to drop us an e-mail or give us a call.
Yours sincerely,
Heather Kirk-Davidoff, Enabling Minister
